Avani Migrant Development Project of Brickyard and Sugar School

In Maharashtra Some families from Marathwada, Vidarbha and Karnataka state migrate for livelihood. These families migrate as laborers in the sugarcane, brickyard, mining and construction sector. The rate of children being dropped out of school and irregular due to such migration is very high. The issue of education of children of migrant workers is very serious. Although they are admitted in their hometown school, they are actually far from education. By staying at the brickyard, the children also turn to child labor. To stop this, AVANI makes awareness among the brickyard worker’s about education and brings their children into the flow of education. Lacking education, these people are not aware of their health.

Situation : In Maharashtra Brick yards and sugar factories usually start in October and November after the start of the factory, seasonal migrant workers come in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara district. with their families. AVANI organization runs brick yard and sugar school day care centers in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts for the children in the age group of 3 to 6 years Similarly, children in the age group of 6 to 14 years are admitted to the nearest ZP school as per RTE Act 2010 and are kept away from child labor and brought to the main school process.

Action : in October and November we survey all migrant families and collect data. As reference to this data we make a list of children in the age group of 3 to 6 and 6 to 14 years. 3 to 6 year children are admitted in the Avani Day-Care Center 6 to 14 years are admitted to the nearest Zilha Parishad Primary School as per the RTE Act.

Lists of students in the age group of 3 to 6 years were given to the Integrated Child Development Department, and lists of students in the age group of 6 to 14 years were handed over to the Chief Executive Officer, Education Officer, Assistant Labor Commissioner and nearby headmaster of the z.p.school. With the help of a survey we find migrant children and bring them into the school process.To create interest in education in children's minds we got various programs such as craft, hygiene, language development, sports, library, environmental education 1) We provide them midday meals with a nutritional diet Regularly for 6 months. 2) We arrange health camps for migrant families. Avani organization makes advocacy with the government to bring these children into the mainstream of education and give them facilities as per their rights.

Result :
1) In the last 28 years, The Avani organization has brought 55,000 children into the stream of education.
2) They are aware about education as well as health.
3) Their next generation will not be labor.
